Game Intro
Prologue: Go Wayback! is a single-player, open-world survival roguelike developed by PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions and built around emergent gameplay. It uses proprietary machine-learning technology to generate a new 64 km² world every time the game is launched. By combining traditional survival mechanics with machine-learning-powered terrain generation, the game offers millions of possible map variations and constantly challenges players to push their limits.
Business Requirements
The goal was to provide consistent QA support throughout the game’s development to help prepare the title for its Early Access release.
Key Goals:
Tested on
2 QA Specialists: Delivered continuous functional testing coverage throughout development — from validating new features to checking build stability on the path to Early Access.
Creation of detailed test cases covering all game areas, building a reliable and reusable documentation base.
Comprehensive testing of game features and systems to confirm they work exactly as designed.
Re-checking existing functionality after every change to catch newly introduced issues early.
Quick build-acceptance checks confirming each new build is stable enough for deeper testing.
Unscripted investigation of the game to uncover edge cases and unexpected behaviour.
Verification of interface clarity, navigation, and the overall player experience.
The consistent QA support delivered measurable improvements throughout development:
Consistent functional and regression testing steadily reduced the number of bugs reaching later builds.
Detailed test cases across all game areas created a clear, reusable documentation base for the whole team.
A better-structured communication and bug-reporting process gave the team fast, clear, actionable insights.
Testing confirmed the ML-driven generation produced playable, coherent 64 km² worlds that met the design requirements.
Stable, high-quality builds throughout development helped prepare the title for its Early Access release.
